The Woodlands Nature Reserve is a place meant to inspire and evoke a deep sense of enjoyment for the natural outdoors.

We have one of the largest privately protected reserves in the area. 

Get access to 8 lakes, miles of trails and forests, and an abundance of natural beauty and wildlife with our equestrian day pass or membership.

This is sure to be an exceptional equestrian experience to both the casual and experienced rider.

Equestrian hours are from sunrise, to one hour after sunset.

Parking is near the bath house at Baileys Field.

$75 monthly unlimited membership.

Anyone who purchases an equestrian membership will recieve a 20% discount code for any overnight stay on our property!

Overnight accomodations for your horses are available across the road!

As required by South Carolina law, all horses and mules must have proof of current, 12 month Negative Coggins test before unloading. 

Please email proof of negative test to info@woodlandsnaturereserve.com before arrival.



While The Woodlands makes every effort to ensure that the trails and facilities are safe, we assume no risk nor liability for injuries resulting from the inherent risks of equine activities, pursuant to Article 7, Chapter 9 or Title 47, Code of Laws of South Carolina, 1976.


Please pick up your manure  and any other waste around horse trailers before leaving. 

No dogs and no other pets allowed while riding. 

Please ride only on the existing trails.

We do not currently offer overnight accommodations for horses, please contact Middleton Place Equestrian Center for pricing and availability.

Is this family friendly?

This program is for adults and kids 8 and up.

Do you offer guided tours?

No. The Equestrian program is currently bring your own horse.

Do you offer boarding?

We do not have any accomodations for horses overnight. Please contact Middleton Place across the street for rates and availability.

How do I sign up?

To sign up, just purchase either an equestrian day pass, or membership package. Make sure the date When you arrive, check in with Chef T at the front gates of our property.

Is equestrian included with my overnight stay?

Yes, although we do not have boarding for horses at this time.

Is equestrian included with a normal day pass?

You must purchase an equestrian day pass and fill out the safety waiver to ride on our property.

What Covid safety measures are in place to ensure everyone’s safety?

Masks are encouraged. Please respect social distancing during your stay. Luckily we  have lots of space, so this shouldnt be difficult.

Arriving & Parking

Entry is located just via the main entrance to Woodlands Nature Reserve at 4279 Ashley River Road, Charleston, SC 29414.

Once you go past the gate, stay left and follow the arrows into Baileys Field. There you will see the bath house, which is the parking area.

You may park on the grass near the bath house.

Will there be food and drinks available?

Coffee, pastries, and vegan options available through Chef T at Baileys Field from 6am to 2pm Saturdays to Thursdays.

What should I bring with me?

We Recommend:

  • Drinking water

  • Close-toed shoes

  • Hat

  • Sunscreen

  • Insect repellent

  • Sunglasses​​

  • Anything you need for your horses

What is the refund policy?

All sales are final. In instances of extreme weather conditions, cancellations are possible and refunds will be issued.

Can I bring my dog or pet?

No dogs and no other pets allowed while riding.

Can I purchase passes at the door?

No. Passes must be purchased online in advance.

Where is the entrance to The Woodlands Nature Reserve?

The entrance is the main entrance at The Woodlands Nature Reserve, 20-minutes west from downtown Charleston on Highway 61.
